Beat the Bottle: Recycling of post-consumer plastic waste to manufacture building materials (plastic lumber, roofing tiles, and pavements).
Long description
Our project for consideration is to recycle post-consumer plastic waste into eco-friendly plastic lumber and other products. This plastic lumber will be an affordable alternative to timber, which will reduce the need for building material manufactured from wood, helping to preserve forests and cut down on deforestation and the effects of climate change. Plastic lumber made from recycled plastics is ideal for fencing on farms, homes, national parks, forest reserves, and commercial places.
This solution creates economic value on plastic at the points of generation to enable the households to sort and sell plastics to earn income. Our solution will generate employment for individuals at the initial stages of the value chain, mostly youth and women, who collect, sort, and clean plastic waste for reselling.
Specific Objectives
-To withdraw over 200,000 kilograms of plastic in 12 months from the environment and use them to manufacture plastic lumber, roofing tiles, and pavements
-To create a beat the bottle environmental education platform to empower, ensure and train 50 youths on the recycling of post-consumer plastic waste through the use of plastics to manufacture building materials (plastic lumber, roofing tiles, and pavements
-To promote entrepreneurship through the recycling of plastics to plastic lumber, roofing tiles, and pavements, and creation of 50 direct with over 100 indirect jobs hereby alleviating poverty.
-To Sensitize, Educate, engage, and strengthen media discussions alongside collaboration in promoting the recycling of plastics for the production of plastic lumber to ensure eco-friendly
