nahwasté is a platform that connects people who have reusable waste materials with those who need them.
Long description
Each year globally we accumulate around 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste, with at least 1/3 of that waste managed in an unsustainable way. In the Netherlands, the top waste-emitting sectors include construction, metal, food, agriculture and textiles.
It’s time to address the issue of waste management in a way that doesn’t require a long and often non-eco-friendly process of recycling, incineration or landfill pollution.
nahwasté is an online exchange service that allows consumers and companies to turn their trash to someone else’s treasure. Users can register their waste materials and organize the transfer to someone else who needs it, receiving money for their usable waste materials while reducing waste and encouraging reuse. The platform is supported by a pairing algorithm that facilitates transfers by location and materials required, e.g: a fashion designer with a company that has textile waste.
Your home DIY project might’ve left spare clay, aggregates and pieces of bricks you were planning to trash. Why not donate these to businesses working with building sustainable housing using upcycled materials? Your food waste to help local agricultural initiatives? Your kids broken toys to help a business working with sustainable and modular toy reparations?
It is expensive to dispose of these materials and even more expensive to buy them, so let’s help make ends meet and break the vice of unnecessary waste.
